Cloud Security

Cloud security encompasses the technologies, policies, controls, and processes used to protect data, applications, and infrastructure in cloud computing environments. As organizations move more workloads to the cloud, understanding the unique security considerations — shared responsibility, data sovereignty, identity management, and configuration — becomes essential.

Cloud security challenges include ensuring proper configuration (misconfigured cloud storage has caused many breaches), managing identity and access across cloud services, maintaining visibility into cloud-based data, and understanding which security responsibilities belong to you versus the cloud provider (the shared responsibility model).

Why It Matters

If you're using or considering cloud services for CUI-related work, understanding cloud security is essential. Cloud doesn't eliminate security requirements — it changes where and how they're implemented. CMMC requirements still apply to your cloud environment.
